| Discovery is a 2-week program designed for children ages 8-11, who may have ADD, Learning disabilities, or may be experiencing some social anxiety. The activity packed schedule and 1:2.5 staff-camper ratio allows campers to have a positive experience at camp. In a nurturing yet structured environment, campers are challenged to become more independent and outgoing within the emotionally and physically safe setting that small group living provides. This is a good introduction to camp for younger kids.

Personal Growth The special needs of the ADHD or LD child are specifically addressed within the Discovery program with a model that emphasizes both consistency and compassion. Our parents frequently report that campers return home less shy, more independent, and ready to face the challenges of the year ahead. As with all of Talisman's summer camp programs, campers are given ample opportunities to practice problem solving within a social context, and to learn to take responsibility for their behaviors. This growth takes place in a safe and fun environment where campers can become excited about the activities they try, the friends they meet, and most importantly the potential they begin to recognize in themselves.
Activities Camp life in the Discovery program is designed to challenge children to step outside of their comfort zones with the encouragement and support of their well trained and deeply committed staff. After getting ready for their day, and campers find a new adventure waiting for them. Whether it is rock climbing, rafting, or visiting the nature center, campers try a new activity every day.. Upon return to their cabins, campers get ready for early evening activities. These activities could include our dress up theme dances, or some quiet letter writing time. Every evening, time is planned for campers to transition to quieter activities before their scheduled bedtime.
