Insight

Insight provides an introduction to our teen adventure programs specifically for 14-17 year olds with high-functioning autism or Asperger's Syndrome. Programs are based out of our NC campus.

Personal Growth
Within the adventure program model, teenagers learn how to work effectively as a team toward a goal. They are guided by staff in improving communication skills and learning to rely on both themselves and their peers. Through our insight-oriented group process, they increase understanding of the connection between choices and consequences, and their personal responsibility in making those choices. Through targeted discussions on being a teenager with Asperger's, campers can develop a more positive attitude toward a typically challenging period of life.

Activities
Insight is packed with adventure activities, including a high ropes course, backpacking, rock climbing, and whitewater rafting. Each activity is introduced in a gradual and encouraging way, and geared toward the beginner. The small groups learn camping skills and prepare for their expedition at base camp, while engaging in group interaction activities. Then they set out for a week of hiking and climbing in the beautiful Pisgah National Forest. The adventure is capped with a rafting trip down the Nolichucky River in Tennessee, and a final night ceremony highlighting the accomplishments of the group and the individuals.
