Fun and adventure for young people with special needs
Talisman Programs offers summer camps and year-round boarding school for young people (ages 8 to 21) who have learning disabilities, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Asperger’s Syndrome and high-functioning autism.
About Talisman Programs
Since 1980, Talisman has provided ADHD camps, Asperger’s camps and boarding school, and camps for children with high-functioning autism and other learning differences. In an atmosphere that supports self-regulation, a staff of trained professionals helps children with special needs develop essential life skills.
Kids with special needs deserve the same enriching camp and school experiences as other children. For this reason, we offer several different types of programs:
Children participate in exciting summer camp activities geared specifically toward campers with special needs. In addition to having tons of fun, our goals are to help each child:
- Practice self-regulation
- Express themselves in positive ways
- Learn independent living skills
- Develop conflict resolution and social skills
Children embark on an expedition-style camp that focuses on a particular adventure activity, such as rock climbing, whitewater kayaking or canoeing. Before departing, campers learn all of the skills they’ll need to make the trip a success. Throughout their journey, campers enjoy a consistent routine and opportunities to process their experiences with the aid of our experienced staff.
While enjoying their favorite camp activities, children gain the skills they need to be successful in the classroom, such as:
- Effective study skills
- Appropriate classroom behavior
- Setting and achieving academic goals
